Now for the review:
So this drama is about a girl whose boyfriend runs away from their wedding and then goes missing. She got very agitated that she presumed him dead LOL. Due to her heartbroken, she couldn't focus on her work, so what she did is EAT. FORGET. THEN REMEMBER. THEN EAT AGAIN.
The vibe is very Jdrama-Esque comedy in a sense, but also a mix of different genres like slice of life, job oriented, food with a bit of musical. I would say the comedy is good if you are into Japanese comedy but may look cringe to you if you are not used to it.
Boukyaku no Sachiko is a hilarious drama, everything is just exaggerated from acting, plot to the main character who's straight from a manga. Perhaps the most exaggerate thing was when she started tasting the food, she will be transferred to the next level sh*t dimension like in food wars anime. My favorite is when she saw poorly animated 3d cows flying on his head LMAO.
Just like any Jdrama comedy, this show has a repetitive pattern in the sense that there is a formula every episode. Sachiko may be eccentric, but she is very dedicated to her work as book editor. She always goes the extra mile because she's very passionate about books. And after a long hard work, she will reward herself for a delicious meal. Another part of the comedy is when the drama threat her boyfriend as comic relief like he always appears in Sachiko's mind mocking her and doing crazy stuff.
The character Sachiko may look like a lifeless robot at first, but there will be a development in her role. Though not as well thought like other character-driven stories, there would be a time that it gets emotional and may hit you if you relate to the character. The surface is just an entertaining food comedy, but if you think of it, genuinely, there is such depth in the story.
Takahata Mitsuki's acting needs high praise here. It's not an easy feat to keep that lifeless face for a long time but can still move you with her heartfelt acting. Few young actresses can do this, and Takahata Mitsuki is among them.
A definite must-watch if you are looking for an excellent Japanese comedy with a touch of food and thought-provoking life lessons. Just a warning don't watch this late at night cause you will crave food and destroy your diet.
