Boukyaku no Sachiko Review

Image
Drama: Boukyaku no Sachiko: A Meal Makes Her Forget Romaji: Boukyaku no Sachiko Japanese: 忘却のサチコ Director: Santa Yamagishi, Soichi Ishii, Kazumasa Nemoto Writer: Jun Abe (manga), Satomi Oshima, Kyoko Inukai, Santa Yamagishi Network: TV Tokyo Actors: Mitsuki Takahata, Taichi Saotome, Shono Hayama   Things to expect in this drama:    Takahata Mitsuki's cosplay      Mouthwatering food     Annoying boyfriend    Just plain weirdness     Now for the review:   So this drama is about a girl whose boyfriend runs away from their wedding and then goes missing. She got very agitated that she presumed him dead LOL. Due to her heartbroken, she couldn't focus on her work, so what she did is EAT. FORGET. THEN REMEMBER. THEN EAT AGAIN. The vibe is very Jdrama-Esque comedy in a sense, but also a mix of different genres like slice of life, job oriented, food with a b...

Zekkyou (2019) - First Impressions

Image
Romaji: Zekkyou/Zekkyo Japanese: 絶叫 Drama: The Voice Calling Your Name (English novel title) / Scream (literal title)   Director: Naruhide Mizuta Writer: Aki Hamanaka (novel), Natsuko Ikeda Network: WOWOW Actors: Machiko Ono, Ken Yasuda, Manami Konishi The first two episodes are both intense, but there is also a feeling of restraint as you could tell the emotion is slowly building up for that inevitable explosion in the end. As I watched the drama I too, wanted to scream, I wanted to release these emotions I'm holding in. I feel the main character, her will to live, her frustrations, her gasping for air, her wanting to break out. I was waiting for her to scream, but no words were coming from her mouth, at least for now. Zekkyou is such a heavy drama. The theme of "isolation" is dominant. It is everywhere in the story, from heavy dialogue, solitary death, people rejected by society, being disowned by family, etc. The goldfish metapho...

School-Live! Live Action Review

Movie: School-Live! Romaji: Gakko Gurashi! Japanese: がっこうぐらし! Director: Issei Shibata Writer: Norimitsu Kaiho (manga), Sadoru Chiba (manga), Issei Shibata Characters: Nanami Abe (LaLuce/pax puella), Midori Nagatsuki (LaLuce), Wakana Majima (Someday Somewhere), Rio Kiyohara (Someday Somewhere), Nonoka Ono, Daichi Kaneko Things to expect in this movie: Cute girls doing cute things  Burning Zombies!!   A bit of romance   Yuki's cute sour face  Now for the review: Leave it to manga writers to always make something unconventional and intriguing. Gakko Gurashi! gives this "cute girl doing cute things," aka moe genre another twist. What is it? Zombies? No, but four letters PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder), which gave the movie the concept of escapism, live peacefully in denial inside the four corners of classroom vs. facing reality, the post-apocalyptic zombie-infested world. The key to the horror aspect in thi...

Best Student-Teacher Romance Japanese Dramas/Movies

Student-teacher Relationship is a very controversial genre, and not everyone will like it. We all know this relationship is wrong, but this is not real life; this is just drama. It doesn't mean a story was made that they are already glorifying or romanticizing the act. Just like other controversial stories like "infidelity dramas", "gay-themed dramas", "historical war movies" or movies that seemed they are glorifying stealing and killing, It's best to separate your morals and reasoning from a story and try to see it through neutral eyes, you don't have to agree to enjoy it. My Teacher (2017)   Movie: My Teacher (English title) / Teacher! Is It Okay for Me to Love You? (literal title) Romaji: Sensei! 、、、Suki ni Natte mo Ii Desuka? Japanese: 先生! 、、、好きになってもいいですか? Director: Takahiro Miki Writer: Kazune Kawahara (manga), Mari Okada Actors: Toma Ikuta, Suzu Hirose, Ryo Ryusei, Aoi Morikawa, Kentaro Ito Plot Synopsi...
