Me, My Husband, and My Husband's Boyfriend Review

Drama: Me, My Husband, and My Husband's Boyfriend
Romaji: Watashi to Otto to Otto no Kareshi
Japanese:: 私と夫と夫の彼氏
Screenwriter: Kurosawa Hisako
Network: Paravi
Actors: Hotta Akane, Furukawa Yuki, Honda Kyoya

This drama's title says it all she who is craving for more intimacy from her husband, her husband who is a closet gay and now cheating on her, and the husband's boyfriend who is her former student and also is in love with both of them. There's cheating so of course a major drama happen the wife started crying and the husband feels guilty and to add to that drama the boyfriend confessed he is in love with both of them. Then due to circumstances and good faith they decided to enter polyamory relationship.

The problem will be very obvious at the beginning as polyamory requires communication, honesty and care. You could say they care for each other but only the boyfriend is honest and if there's no communication for husband and wife what more if they add one more person to their relationship. There are already huge signs this will have sad ending but to say it will be bad ending cause is sad is wrong. Sad ending can also be a good ending if we learn lesson from it, if the drama manage to convey the theme properly at the end.

If your view on world is black and white this drama is not for you, you could disagree with the act of polyamory but the fact is they exist, you could disagree with boyfriend's view on relationship but the fact is they exist, you could hate cheating act from the husband and how passive the wife but the fact is what they feel is legit. They are real people living in our society and this drama just tells their story.

Japan is one of the best tackling complex relationship in their media, gender, age, belief, status in life doesn't matter as long as it will breathe new life to a familiar theme they will do it. But it doesn't matter if the concept is new if the execution is not good it will fail and that's what I feel from the first 5 episodes. It lacks good execution, logic and the acting is only decent but then again it doesn't matter what my opinion is, it doesn't matter if majority will not call this masterpiece the fact is this spicy plot is the one that sells. It will be one of the most popular dramas for 2023.

  1. Thanks for writing!. To be honest this is not my cup of tea but wanted to say Hello and as for Asadora recommendations as I am still smitten by "Okaeri, Mone" six months after watching it.
