This Guy is the Biggest Mistake in My Life Jdrama Review

Drama: This Guy is the Biggest Mistake in My Life
Romaji: Kono otoko ha Jinseisaidai no Ayamachi Desu
Japanese: この男は人生最大の過ちです
Director: Takeo Kikuchi
Writer: Shiki Kokonose (manga)
Network: TV Asahi, ABC
Actors:  Mokomichi Hayami, Airi Matsui

One of the weirdest romantic comedies Japan has produced. It's the story of an office lady (Sato Yui) and a ceo of pharmaceutical company (Amagi Ryuichi), they met in a bar where Ryuichi ridiculed Yui for the death of her dog and as an act of revenge she tripped him. It surprised Ryuichi because that is the first time someone did that to him. The next day Yui got summoned to the president's office and to her surprise the president is the guy she tripped last night. She thought she will get fired until Ryuichi kneels in front of her and says "treat me as your slave".

Just a quick heads up not everyone will be able to tolerate the male lead in this drama, his stalker-ish behavior is really creepy but this is the type of Jdrama where you should not take seriously, the drama is just all Wtf moments, not even a single moment where it is grounded to reality, its either you laugh with it or drop it.

Every episode is filled with Wtf moments and some of those Wtf moments are meme materials. The scene where he is sliding down the railings for example, it's hilarious because of how random that moment was. His stalker-ish behaviour is funny but that of course if you don't take the act seriously, he will just appear out of nowhere and annoy the female lead.

Acting-wise the actors need to be commended. It's not easy to say those lines while keeping a straight face. Hayamami Mokomichi is convincing as this stalker ceo and Matsui Airi as thundere pet loving female lead. Music is also perfectly fitting but not just fitting but catchy as well.

Though I love this drama and find it extreme entertaining but I just couldn't help but think the drama would have benefited with longer running time per episode so that it will be a bit more grounded especially this creepy male lead. The additional time can be spent for the much needed back stories for both characters so that we would fully understand their motivation as well. It could become another unconventional gem like Date and Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, but it is more a Fukuda Yuichu drama than those two.

Lastly don't expect doki doki type of romance in this drama, it's more of a fun romance drama like Densha Otoko and hopefully it will also get a more grounded movie adaptation because this story has potential to be much better. Again the premise is controversial and not everyone will be able to tolerate it, but this is the type of drama where you should not take seriously. To watch this drama you don't have to agree to enjoy it.
