Beyond Goodbye (Sayonara no Tsuzuki) Review

Drama: Beyond Goodbye Romaji: Sayonara no Tsuzuki Japanese: さよならのつづき Screenwriter: Okada Yoshikazu Network: Netflix Actors: Arimura Kasumi, Sakaguchi Kentaro, Ikuta Toma At times it felt like a giant coffee ad with Wabi Sabi philosophy that is ever present with this type of stories in Japan. The symbolism of trains and coffee is a nice touch so this drama has depth and not just simple romance genre. Finding the beauty in imperfections whether in an inconvenience where trains needs to stop, fixing an old coffee maker or maybe an event when a loved one died, each has different effects, some affected us little, but finding the beauty in it will help us to cope and eventually move on. Saeko loses her fiancé, Yusuke due to an accident, one day he met a man named Kazumasa, a man who received a heart transplant from Yusuke but also shares memories from him. It is not the first time this story was told a heart transplant that also can transfer memories. A cliché story with a more cliché execut

Best Japanese dramas of 2023-2024

So it is that time again where I share what I think the best Japanese dramas for these past two years. I only have 6 on my list not a lot because I want to make it shorter this time and I feel we have 2 consecutive weak years where 2024 is the weakest year in a long while. I only include dramas that I really really like and I only have 1 this year. I also didn't include Shogun and One piece for obvious reasons as they are American produced series. We also have tons of Netflix dramas but sadly I didn't like most of them. My lists includes 1 Asadora, 2 slice of life (yeah my fav genre), a road trip human drama, a social commentary comedy and lastly suspense horror one. Tora ni tsubasa Let me start with a bold statement that Tora ni tsubasa is the most progressive asadora in a sea of progressive asadoras. Morning NHK shows aka Asadora is not new for progressive themes in fact you could argue that most Asadoras are feminist but Tora ni tsubasa crank it up a bit higher, it is revolu

Lion no Kakurega Review

Drama: Lion no Kakurega Romaji: Raion no Kakurega Japanese: ライオンの隠れ家 Screenwriter: Tokuo Koji Network: Netflix Actors: Yuya Yagira, Bando Ryota, Sato Tasuku So I was browsing for shows on Netflix when If found this drama I was surprised because it is not often for Japan to put their on going dramas on Netflix and Yuya Yagira is the lead which I am a fan so I decided to watch it. Lion no Kakurega is part mystery and part slice of life drama. The mystery is somewhat okay very predictable but it is the life aspect the made me glued on screen. It is fascinating full of life lessons just like any slice of life drama. The story revolves around two brothers, the older one is just your typical government employee and the younger whom is on autistic spectrum works as a painter. One day they found a child in their home and from then their life was changed, their daily routine was changed which is the theme this drama trying to convey. I only watched 3 episodes and so far I liked it. The male lea

Me, My Husband, and My Husband's Boyfriend Review

Drama: Me, My Husband, and My Husband's Boyfriend Romaji: Watashi to Otto to Otto no Kareshi Japanese:: 私と夫と夫の彼氏 Screenwriter: Kurosawa Hisako Network: Paravi Actors: Hotta Akane, Furukawa Yuki, Honda Kyoya This drama's title says it all she who is craving for more intimacy from her husband, her husband who is a closet gay and now cheating on her, and the husband's boyfriend who is her former student and also is in love with both of them. There's cheating so of course a major drama happen the wife started crying and the husband feels guilty and to add to that drama the boyfriend confessed he is in love with both of them. Then due to circumstances and good faith they decided to enter polyamory relationship.  The problem will be very obvious at the beginning as polyamory requires communication, honesty and care. You could say they care for each other but only the boyfriend is honest and if there's no communication for husband and wife what more if they add one more pe

Best Japanese Dramas of 2021-2022

This is the list of what in my opinion the best Japanese dramas of 2021 and 2022 but first I want to mention what taste I have for dramas. I'm not fan of cliché and tropes so you may not find popular mystery and romance dramas on this list however I'm a huge fan of slice of life since the human condition fascinates me a lot and Japan is the champion for that. I am now in that part of my life where watching dramas are not just entertainment some of them are my source to feed my soul. Dramas with depth, characters that uplifts or stories that would give a different perspective; those factors are what I value the most. I also like fresh and think outside the box type of stories, those who seek new concepts and especially those who rebel against the fundamental aspects of storytelling, so don't be surprised if you find weird quirky shows or some atmospheric dramas included on this list. Let's begin. Omameda Towako to Sannin no Motootto Drama: My Dear Exes (English title) Ro
