The amount of cheese in this drama will put Domino's Pizza out of business and as a viewer you will also gain 10 pounds just by staring on the screen. Seriously though, Coffee and Vanilla, the Japan's answer to fifty shades of grey, is perhaps the cheesiest Japanese drama I've seen, but it doesn't mean it sucks because there are people who enjoy this type of show, hence this is the hottest Japanese drama right now.

Risa Shiroko, a country girl, comes to Tokyo to attend university. She never had a boyfriend and dreams of having one. Although she is a bit popular with male students, Risa is a shy type of girl who lacks confidence to talk to opposite sex. Male students approach her, but she is just too timid to entertain them.

One day, a thirty year old Hiroto Fukami appears in front of her. He is your classic prince charming just everything in him is just perfect, from looks, charisma, to bank account. He is the type of guy who can charm any girl in this planet. Romance blossoms between them, but just like any story with similar plot, this prince charming, holds a secret that will keep viewers intrigued.

This drama is based on a SMUT manga, if you are not familiar with smut genre it is a story with little plot with love lines that appeal to women and it also includes a lot of sexually explicit scenes. Basically a fan service aims towards women, like soft porn but less explicit. So if you are into that kind of genre expect your heart flutter so much. This drama is the definition of guilty pleasure, and every episode has a formula, misunderstanding followed by a big doki doki moment.

Now that I already explained what smut means, I won't blame anyone if you ended up hating this show. The drama is not just meant for you. The relationship is just too unrealistic and straightforward. This prince charming fell head over heels with our girl next door just like that. No dating happened, no development whatsoever, love at first site maybe real, but in real life there should still be a development and not just two characters devoted to each other in short period of time.

So when comparing to other smut drama, I think this is one of the best as it clearly achieved its goals, and that is to leave you swooning with passion.
